Finding A Beautiful Packaging Solution With Wrap It Right

Case Study: Beauty Supply Company

Overview

A Toronto, Ontario beauty supply company was dealing with a significant amount of lost and damaged product due to poor hand wrapping on their pallets. The lack of containment was crippling their current delivery process while simultaneously putting future shipping at risk. Also, due to the hand-wrapping process, an excessive amount of film was being used, hurting the company’s bottom line.

Seeing the state of the beauty supplier’s packaging process, a Crawford Packaging Specialist knew that a Wrap It Right audit was needed. After reviewing production levels, labour costs, and forecasted 5-year growth, a far more efficient and effective solution presented itself. By implementing a Wulftec SML 150 semi-automatic stretch wrapper, the company would not only greatly improve load containment, but also use a fraction of the amount of stretch wrap being previously consumed.

After trialling the machine for several weeks — at no charge — the beauty supplier realized the significant saving potential. The semi-automatic stretch wrapper cut down on packaging time, eliminated containment issues associated with hand wrapping, and greatly reduced the amount of film consumption.

Challenge

When products started getting lost and damaged, a Toronto, Ontario beauty supplier knew it was time to update their packaging process. Hand wrapping pallets was no longer an option, as load containment was greatly suffering — greatly slowing down the packaging process. Also, as with any method of hand wrapping, a greater amount of stretch film was needed in order to keep pallets contained. This combination of factors was plaguing the company and skyrocketing their cost-per-pallet.

Process

In order to get the full scope of the solution, a Crawford Packaging Specialist conducted a Wrap It Right audit. This would show areas to improve efficiency in the packaging process, specifically relating to pallet wrapping. It was determined that a Wulftec SML 150 semi-automatic stretch wrapper stretch wrapper would improve overall efficiency as well as directly address the issues of pallet containment and film over-consumption. A no-cost trial was offered to the supplier in order to test the machine’s effectiveness in delivering results. After a few weeks of testing, the company made the decision to acquire the machines full time.
