Your Outdated Case Sealer May be Putting Your Efficiency at Risk

Case Study: Grower - Florist

Overview

A florist from the Greater Toronto Area reached out to Crawford as their case sealer was out of operation with no available spare parts. The customer had upwards of 2000 cases of perishables to package in order to meet their deadline. The case sealer they were actively using at the time was down due to a parts problem and their previous supplier had no replacement parts available. As well, ordering in parts from the manufacturer caused long lead times which was not going to work for the customer.

At Crawford, we have the ability to stock Loveshaw equipment, as well as other manufacturer equipment, as we are a top distributor. When we learned about the customer’s deadline, we knew we had the solution due to our stocking agreement. The Crawford team worked hard and fast to understand the customer’s needs and furthermore arrange a delivery date within hours of initial contact.

Crawford’s Packaging Specialists recommended the Loveshaw LD7 case sealer, a stocked piece of equipment, as this equipment suited their needs when it came to case sizes, weights, and expected volume output. As well on top of the new case sealer, the customer requested new tape proposals and after discussing a few different specs, they landed on IPG 6100 TAPE 48MM X 1828M. These 2 solutions are currently working flawlessly for the customer.

Challenge

The customer had upwards of 2000 cases of perishables to pack in order to meet their Easter weekend deadline. The case sealer they were actively using at the time was down due to a parts problem and there were no replacement parts available. As well, ordering in parts from the manufacturer caused long lead times which was not going to work for the customer.

Process

As per Crawford’s standard, we discussed at a high level what the customer’s requirements are to understand their packaging process with their previous case sealer – it turns out they weren’t maximizing their efficiency and output.

Our Packaging Specialists provided the customer with many brochures and videos to show precisely how the piece of equipment works and what the potential output could be.

Solution

At Crawford, we stock Loveshaw case sealers, as well as other manufacturer equipment including stretch wrappers and shrink wrappers, as we are a top distributor. Crawford’s Packaging Specialists recommended the Loveshaw LD7 case sealer, part of our stocking equipment with the supplier, as this piece of equipment suited their needs when it came to case sizes, weights, and expected volume output.

As well on top of the new case sealer, the customer requested new tape proposals and after a few different specs, they landed on IPG 6100 TAPE 48MM X 1828M. These 2 solutions are currently working flawlessly for the customer.

This solution directly aligns with one of our core values as a company – increasing productivity. The LD7 case sealer can keep up with the customer’s daily output goal as well as fit their required sizes perfectly.
