The Strapper Wrapper Combination – The Best Way to Contain Your Load

We understand Industrial Packaging.

Every single day, there are many shipments that get from point A to point B – whether that’s freight through land, air, or sea. Regardless of the type of freight, there is always a chance of shipping damage in all shapes and sizes. Some shipping damage indicators include:

  • Improper handling

  • Water damage

  • Theft

  • Crushed corrugate or pallets, and more

The costs of shipping damage can add up over time once you consider all the hidden costs such as temporary storage, consumer impact, repairing and salvaging products and more.

What is a strapper wrapper combination? It involves the process of combining best practices of stretch wrap packaging and strapping materials to secure and contain your load to ensure reduced damages. A proper stretch wrap application alongside strapping will ensure your products are secured for shipment. Using Crawford’s Wrap It Right program, it will allow you to audit your current stretch wrapping process and determine where there are inefficiencies. With this, customers will be guaranteed annual cost savings.

What is a Stretch Wrapping Machine?

Stretch wrap machines, also referred to as pallet wrapping machines, involve the process of using a machine to stretchable plastic film to secure products firmly in place for shipping on pallets. Stretch wrap machines have the ability to wrap many different sizes pallets. Fully automatic stretch wrapping systems can be integrated into your packaging lines to improve efficiency and increase throughput.

Automatic stretch wrap machines are available in both semi-automatic and fully automatic formats. Stretch wrap machines come in a variety of styles including turntable, rotary arm, and horizontal.

Turntable:

Turntable stretch wrappers use a rotating platform to turn your pallet in place while wrapping 20-40 loads per hour. A mechanical arm applies the stretch film ensuring an even, high-quality application.

Rotary Arm:

Rotary Arm Stretch Wrappers keep your load stationary while a mechanical arm rotates around the load wrapping up to 40 loads per hour. This application method is optimal for tall or oddly weighted loads that have a risk of collapsing or falling over.

Horizontal:

Orbital Stretch Wrapping Machines, otherwise known as Horizontal Stretch Wrapping Machines, are for stretch wrapping long, wide loads. A rotating ring, which is available in up to 4 different sizes, circles the load applying a consistent wrap for up to 120 loads per hour.

What is a Strapping Machine?

What is a strapping machine you might ask – they are automated packaging machines that use bands of various materials that tighten around a package or pallet of goods and fasten together to secure the package. The straps that automated strapping machines apply can bundle products together, improve containment strength and to secure a load to a shipping pallet.

Automatic strapping machines can be integrated into your packaging lines to improve efficiency, increase throughput, and reduce the risk of employee strain. Strapping machines are available in both semi-automatic and fully automatic formats.

Fully automatic strapping machines have a drop off area or conveyor systems to position and prepare a load for strapping. When the strapping machine’s sensors detect the load, the straps are automatically applied, tightened, and cut without the need of operator interaction.

Much like automatic strapping machines, semi-automatic strapping machines tighten straps around the load. The only difference is semi-automatic strapping machines require an operator to apply the straps, then the machine does the rest.

What is Crawford’s Wrap-It-Right Program?

Wrap-It-Right

Crawford’s Wrap It Right Program works with clients to audit and review their existing stretch film practices and equipment to identify inefficiency. Wrap It Right will increase productivity and reduce costs through standardization of stretch film practices. Through the Wrap It Right program, clients have realized up to 30% on their annual stretch film costs.

How Can You Contain Your Load?

Whether you need a stretch wrapper or strapping machine or both, it is best to consider bringing on a packaging expert to look at your packaging operation to help determine the right piece of equipment for your application.
